Androgyny Image

The Ash Manor ghost was photographed in 1936 in Sussex, England. The Manor was allegedly haunted by a man named Henley who maintained his ghostly presence on earth to revenge his wife's seduction by a man named Buckingham. Although the ghost, channelled through medium Eileen Garrett, was a man, its image, as captured by a handservant, was amorphous as well as androgynous. It appears in the photo as a scintillating, floating figure made of smoke and light. This image, never proven to be real or fake, illustrates the transition of the human soul from its gender specific earthly vessel to its genderless spiritual form following death.
